Island Hopping (Krk - Rab) |
ISLAND HOPPING
KRK + RAB
The world of Kvarner Bay islands is well known for its attractive landscape, in colours and fragrances especially lively and intense. The most beautiful are the island, first of all Krk and Rab. Krk is often called “The Golden Island” – because of its wealth. But the wealth is not gold and jewels, but the fact that through the centuries it has been able to care for itself and feed its inhabitants. The sea supplies fish, the sheep of the inland “produce” outstanding cheese, Krk has its own olive oil and on the gentle slopes a famous sort of vine, the Vrbnicka Žlahtina , is grown. Rab, the main town of the island, has stood since the Middle Ages on a small tongue of land on the south-west part of the island. Its picturesque narrow streets, Romanic, Gothic and Venetian churches and palaces, and especially its 4 church towers are a treat for every visitor.
